Advertise your Volunteer vacancies

Finding volunteers is difficult for a number of reasons. On the basis that you don‘t normally apply for a volunteer vacancy if you don‘t know what it involves, this page will be for advertising volunteering opportunities on the website.

We already have several volunteer positions to advertise:

Most importantly, the Centre has no Chairman or Vice-Chairman. If these positions remain empty the future of the Centre is in grave doubt. The Newsletter Editor is also retiring in 2020, and this is also an important post.

See also below for volunteers to help on the holidays and coach outings.

Lectures sub-committee. We should like a volunteer to join this friendly and efficient committee to help us plan and run the Centre‘s annual season of talks. At present, the committee meets four times a year in Cheltenham, (near Bethesda where there is private parking)  on dates and at times to suit the members.  For more information contact Jan Turner, Sub-committee chairman, Tel 01242 674140

Study day organiser(s)  Two successful study days have taken place. Organiser(s) needed to arrange a study day for 2018. Initial enquiries have taken place for one at Woodchester in the Stroud area, although it could be elsewhere. Members travel in their own transport.  Organisation includes collecting fees and arranging the format for the day.

Vacancy Notices for Helpers on the Centre Outings and Holidays

In order to continue to provide an annual series of Outings for Centre Members, help with the Coach Outings is urgently needed. We need Members to volunteer to organise Outings themselves, or who would be willing to lead some Outings, particularly if I, as the Outing Organiser was not able to be present. We may have some Members who have had previous experience in organising or leading Outings who would be willing to help, or alternatively Members who have never attempted such a venture but would  like do so appropriate help, training and guidance would be available. Additionally, Janet and Adris would be grateful for any Members offering to take a turn in handling Members‘ Applications for Outings, and recording and sending the relevant cheques to the Treasurer. Members interested in helping the Outings Organisers in these ways can volunteer or obtain more information from David Cooke on 01453 765391 or

National Trust Cattle Checker Volunteers Wanted

Are you interested in helping our Cotswolds team carry out the daily cattle check? Our herd of Belted Galloway and Welsh Black cattle are essential for conservation grazing on various grassland sites within a 10 mile radius of the Ebworth Centre.

These native, pure-bred animals play an important role in the conservation of wildflower-rich Cotswold grasslands, which support an abundance of plants and insects.  The ¬źBelties‘ grazing produces the best possible conditions to enable wildlife to flourish. This particular cattle breed is very tough and perfectly suited to spend the winter outside, thriving on these grasslands. In addition, the herd are accredited to the RSPCA Freedom Food Welfare scheme and are annually monitored by the RSPCA inspectors.

The cows are checked once a day by dedicated staff and volunteers from the National Trust. We are looking for additional cattle checkers to help us keep an eye on our herd over the weekends. You will be required to visit various sites on our own using a National Trust vehicle and learn to identify common problems that might affect our cattle and communicate these to the team. This role will suit you if you are passionate about the outdoors and available one or more weekend days a month.  Volunteering with the National Trust is an exciting way to try new things, get outdoors and lend a hand to a great cause. If you are confident around cattle (or willing to learn the ropes) please get involved to help us look after our herd of Belties. Training is provided to all cattle checkers. If you are interested please email Kate on or call 07483 929357.
